Top Five Blog Posts

Top Five Blog Posts

from my blog partners and Mr. Daley 😉

This idea to make another top five list of blog posts that classmates have made is such a good idea, I think.

This opportunity allowed me to go over my partners’ posts again! 🙂

1.

Coffee Culture – Aussie Coffee Culture in NYC – BreakThruTV [ep61]

from Jenny

For link, click here!

There are so many good posts in Jenny’s blog, but I chose this post as the most interesting one for me.

It is because even though I don’t drink coffee, I love cafes so it was very interesting for me to keep up with New York’s cafe trend. Also, I liked interior and mood of cafes that the video clip introduced such as Blue Bird cafe and Little Collins cafe. It really made me want to visit New York and coffee street again to try all the beverages in there!

I knew nothing about Australian coffee and how it is different from American coffee before I went through this post, but now I know about them. Especially the most interesting information from the video was about Australian unique coffee called ‘flat white’ and the ‘long black’. Though I don’t enjoy caffeine, it made me wish to taste those coffee!

2.

My Top 5 favorite apps

by Jiseon

For link, click here!

This top five list offered me very useful information about smart phone applications!

Especially why I liked this post is because it was Jiseon who picked those apps in her top five list who is an university student just like me. Therefore, this list really helped me and was a good tip for me.

Three of the applications were what I already knew about, but since I did not really care about two of them, it made me to consider its utility again. Also, the fact that I was looking for useful photo editing application was a reason for choosing this post as one of my favorite. Jiseon picked an app named ‘Moldiv’ which is a photo editor as the best app, and I actually downloaded and am using it now. It is a good photo app as she recommended! 😉

Misbehaving Students Punished With Mozart
by Mr. Daley

For link, click here!

This post about an article professor thinks is interesting was also an interesting one for me, too. Maybe it is because music is one of my great passions!

This post is about a teacher who let his students to hear Mozart classical music during detention, and it reminded me about funny trend among teenagers in America before which was to torture their friends by making them to listen Justin Bieber’s songs. Of course, it is Mozart and so different. 😉

Also I liked what professor added more about real music torture used in CIA, it surprised me that the form of torture really existed. However, by imagining listening to same list of music 24 hours a day, I understand why CIA used the method. In addition, I learned not only physical way but also mental way to torture people can really annoy them.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, 2001

by Yena

For link, click here!

It is always very great and happy to visit Yena’s blog and see her posts because her passions which are sweets and movies are what I fancy too. Also, this post made me excited again because it is about Harry Potter which I love so much too!

I am such a great fan of Harry Potter that I have all the series books in Korean and English in my room and also have movie files too. I am so happy to live a time of Harry Potter and grow with actors in similar age. Also why this post is more special to me is because it’s about the first piece of Harry Potter series, the Sorcerer’s Stone.

Though she simply summarized the story and told about her feelings and love toward Harry Potter which did not really offer new information to me, just because I am also a big fan of Harry Potter it allowed me to choose it as my second favorite post. I want to talk more about Harry Potter in class with her! 😉

10 best film musics

by Yena

For link, click here!

Music and movies are my great passions, so when they are combined and become ost, I can’t just pass by. I don’t (or maybe can’t) even remember what main characters and actors were in movies but do always remember how and what the music pieces were in the movies. Therefore, there was no doubt for choosing Yena’s top ten best film musics!

What surprised and made me happy was that I know and love all the musics she picked. 🙂 She picked pieces of music such as Lost Stars in Begin Again which is quite recent and Reality in La Boum which was released in 1980. Well, my favorite one is He’s a Pirate in Pirates of the Caribbean since I am a great fan of the series and actually heard the music played by orchestra when I attended a middle school in US. That really touched me so much and made me to love the music and movie more.

Top Five Eye Shadows for your Make-up

Top Five Eye Shadows for your Make-up

I think the biggest change of girls’ make-up when they become adults in Korea is in their eye makeup, that we become addicted with eye shadows!

I would like to introduce top five eye shadows that I actually have and used based on my own perspective to offer you good tips. 😉

5. Mono Eyes No.67 ‘Dear’

3

KakaoTalk_20150517_213913009

One of the most famous and best eye shadow series, the Mono Eyes from ARITAUM has so many beautiful eye shadows such as No.67 Dear. Above picture is from another blog and below one is what I took by myself, actually trying on my forearm. Dear has somewhat light nuddy brown color, so it is good for base eye shadow make-up! Also, If you want to give point to your bags under the eyes, Dear would be good because it shimmers suitably.

4. Look at My Eyes BR401 ‘In to My Heart’

KakaoTalk_20150517_213912882

Etude’s Look at My Eyes series also has many good eye shadows, that it’s cheaper than ARITAUM’s Mono Eyes series. BR401 ‘In to My Heart’ is also a famous eye shadow among the series. As you can see, it had dark brown color and it shimmers quite a lot. Therefore, if you want to make your eyes to look sexier or stronger, you can use it with several touches. Also, color comes out directly by a single touch, so I guess you could use this one shadow for a long time.

3. Pure Radiant Shadow No.6 ‘Classy Mood’

As you can infer from the name of it, four colors of this shadow box has calm colors. Also, the size of the whole shadows are not so big, so you can take this one shadow little box and manage whole daily eye make-up at once. Buying shadow box like this is a good way for people who are not so familiar with eye shadow, because it already offers steps and you can just follow! As you can see, four colors starting from upper left get darker and therefore you can just put them from lighter one. Whenever it’s hard for me to carry all eye shadows, I just take this one and my eye make up is done!

2. Mono Eyes No.97 ‘Modern Fatal’

KakaoTalk_20150517_213911977

Second Mono Eyes eye shadow in my top five list is ‘Modern Fatal’. As you can see, its color is not to strong, but has somewhat rosy brown color. Therefore, it is good when you want to look feminine and girlish! However, the color doesn’t really come out well by single touch, but that means you can use it for daily eye make-up. This shadow is what I enjoy putting on and use as daily eye make up with Dear and another Mono Eyes shadow named ‘Maxi’ because I like feminine make up. Therefore, I recommend this rosy brown eye shadow if you want to look more womanly and softer.

1. Mono Eyes No.50 ‘Cocktail Dress’

KakaoTalk_20150517_213912161

Finally, my favorite eye shadow is from ARITAUM, again Mono Eyes series ‘Cocktail Dress’! It is a pink color eye shadow and shimmers quite a lot. I like its color because it is one of  my best pink eye shadows and it is baby pink. This shadow is also perfect for spring make up! In addition, one more reason why  I chose this as the best eye shadow is that the color comes out really well by a single touch! Texture is also very soft, so I believe it would be good for eye makeup beginners too 😉

Top Five Cutest Animals in the World

Top Five Cutest Animals in the World

In the world, there are so many lovely animals that make people happy.

Today, I would like to introduce the top five cutest animals in the world based on my thought and research,

so as to let you feel a bit of happiness If I can. 🙂

5. Puffer Fish

Puffer Fish

This lovely smiling fish seems to be cute at first, but once you irritate it, you might just want to avoid this cute fish. This cute fish is able to swallow water or even air quickly, so much so that they become spherical, scaring off predators. This ability can often save both of their lives, since most puffer fish species are poisonous. Also, one fun fact is that puffer fish have the smallest genomes in the vertebrate world!

4. Red Panda

Red Panda

The red panda is a small mammal from eastern Himalayas and southwestern China. What is so cute about this animal is that it is slightly larger than a domestic cat! It has reddish-brown fur with a long shaggy tail. It feeds mainly on bamboo. Imagine this cute little panda holding bamboo on its hands and eating! However, the red panda has been classified as vulnerable animal species since its population is estimated at fewer than 10,000 mature individuals. Even though red pandas are protected by national laws, their numbers will decline if genuine protection ceases.

3. Sea Otter

The sea otter is a marine mammal from the coasts of the northern and eastern North Pacific Ocean. Though adult sea otters are the heaviest members of the weasel species, they are still among the smallest marine mammals. However, unlike most marine mammals, the sea otter has an exceptionally thick coat of fur, the densest in the animal kingdom. Also, the greatest reason why I chose the sea otter is because of their lovely natural habit. The sea otter likes to give clams to people as gift, and they usually like people and don’t get scared of us. However, there’s a sad story that the reason they give glams to people is to tribute to us not to harm them. ;(

2. Doggies and Kitties

The domestic dog is a domesticated form of the gray wolf. The dogs may have been the first animal to be domesticated, and has been the most widely kept working, hunting, and companion animal in human history. Also, there is another human’s friend in our history. kitties! The cat, also known as the domestic cat or house cat is a small, usually furry and carnivorous mammal. They are valued by humans for its companionship and its ability to hunt vermin and pests. Kitties are currently the most popular pet in the world, associated with humans for at least 9,500 years!

1. Harp Seal

The harp seal is a species of earless seal from the northernmost Atlantic Ocean and Arctic Ocean. Its scientific name, Pagophilus groenlandicus means ‘ice-lover from Greenland’. What a lovely name! 😉 Mature harp seal is also cute but the cutest age of harp seal is when they are babies. As you can see from the picture, the baby harp seal has a yellow-white coat at birth, but after three days, the coat turns white and stays white for about 12 days. They love to rest with ice all over their bodies! However, seal hunting is the most threatening element for harp seal nowadays. Official hunting happening mainly by Canada, Norway, Russia and Greenland can be admitted, but illegal seal hunting for their skins to make clothes is a serious problem of their population.

3 Cruel Exotic Animal Attractions You Won’t Believe Exist Right Here in the U.S.

3 Cruel Exotic Animal Attractions You Won’t Believe Exist Right Here in the U.S. (March 24, 2015)

* Summary

Reading down the first part, I thought this article might introduce and recommend really exemplary animal attractions because it said it is animal lovers’ dream to interact with wild animals closely. However, right after that, the writer points out that because of the people’s pure hope, illegal animal exhibitors capture poor wildlife animals and make attractions to earn money. What is important is that there are lots of cruel problems going on in the animal attractions. Those animals are usually captured from their natural habitat as babies and sent to such cruel environment that human made. What is more unbelievable is, that unlike the fact that many people would believe this kind or cruel deed happens in other parts of the world, it is true that there are also cruel animal attractions in the U.S and the writer picks three kinds of attractions and criticizes. First is ‘roadside animal attractions’ where personal animal exhibitors show animals around their shops or wherever they tend to attract people. Second is ‘Canned Trophy Hunts’ which is a cruel sport that most people associate with exotic safaris that take place in Africa. The last one is ‘Photo-Ops With Big Catswhere offer visitors the chance to pose with exotic animals, including big cats that are epitome of wild animal exploitation.

Shine on: Metallic make-up is hot this spring

Shine on: Metallic make-up is hot this spring (Apr 12, 2015)

* Summary

It is a style news from ‘Life&Style’ category of Sunday Express, and a beauty editor named Amy Packer wrote it. She says metallic make-up is one of hot trends of this spring, so go ahead and try them on your faces (if you are interested in make-up). According to her, because metallic color suits for every skin complexion from a palest English woman to one with more sultry complexion. However, there are some tips that you will have to keep in mind when you try the metallic make-up. First, perhaps it was a model on a catwalk where you first noticed metallic make-up that glimmers and shines all over their eyes to the brows. Nevertheless,  you don’t have to follow the model’s make-up since metallic color can somewhat stands out too much. Therefore, be careful not to put the metals all over your face, it is several touches on your lips, cheeks, or eyes that you need for the metallic make-up. Also, keeping the balance is important. Choosing nude, matt shades for the eyes when you’re trying a metallic make-up for the first time or sheer, creamy lip colors on the occasions when you have chosen for a high-shine eye. In the end, the editor recommends some real metallic items that you can buy and try on.

Cleopatra’s Eye Make-Up Had Health Benefits

Cleopatra’s Eye Make-Up Had Health Benefits (January 8, 2010)

* Summary

French scientists had discovered that the heavy eye make-up which ancient Egyptian women enjoyed may have been good for their eyes health. They claimed the research result by publishing the content in the journal Analytical Chemistry. They said the result was due to the lead in the mixture the Egyptians used for their make-ups, that it helped to fight with bacteria which induce eye infections! Even though the lead is known as a lethal component to human health, if only small amount of lead is used, it gives health benefits according to scientists from the Louvre Museum and the CNRS research institute. Also the most popular model for her dark eye make-up in ancient Egypt is Cleopatra. She used to darken her eyes to look sexier. However, according to the study shown in the news, maybe she meant for not only beauty on her face but also health for her eyes!
